What "waterproof" actually means for jewellery
A lot of jewellery is described as "water-resistant," which usually means it can survive being caught in the rain without immediate damage not that it's built for repeated submersion. The distinction matters because chlorine, salt, and even mineral-heavy tap water are all corrosive to most jewellery metals over time, especially plated pieces where water can work its way under the plating layer and cause it to lift or discolour from underneath.
